This explains what the site stores in your browser and why. In short: only what it needs to work, and, if you allow it, a visit counter that sets no cookies.

Always in use

  • nsc_access — recognises your session once you sign in. Lasts 15 minutes.
  • nsc_refresh — saves you signing in every 15 minutes. Lasts 30 days and is removed when you sign out.
  • nsc_preview — only for editors previewing a draft from the panel, briefly.
  • Browser storage: to keep a notice you closed closed, and to remember your cookie choice. These never leave your device.

Signing in is impossible without them, so they do not depend on consent.

Only if you allow it

A counter running on our own server (Umami) to see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, does not recognise you, and shares nothing with any third party. If your browser says “do not track”, it stays off even if you allow it.

Third parties

The site loads no Google Fonts, advertising or social media tracking. If a page has a YouTube video, nothing is requested from YouTube until you press play.

Changing your mind

Use the “Cookie preferences” link at the foot of every page, at any time.
