Who we are
Not a training squad. A group of friends.
NIA Social Club is a community in İstanbul that runs, rides and swims. We are not a training squad; we are closer to a group of friends who happen to meet on the seafront, a forest road or at the pool.
Nobody is measured by a time here. Some of us run marathons, some of us finished their first three kilometres last week. Both end up at the same table afterwards.
We ask one thing: be kind to whoever is next to you, watch the traffic, and ask before you take a photograph.
What we do
Three sports, one club
You do not have to do all three. Pick one; you will try the others if you get curious.
Run
Tuesday evenings on the seafront, Saturday mornings in the forest. Start at five kilometres and go as far as you like.
Ride
Sunday mornings we head out of the city. The group never rides faster than its slowest rider.
Swim
The pool through winter, open water in summer. There is a separate lane for anyone still learning the stroke.
How to join
Three steps to your first meet-up
None of them paid. You do not have to join before your first time.
Pick a meet-up
Find a day that suits you. The distance and the pace are written on every event.
Turn up
Somebody meets you at the start. Just say it is your first time.
Keep coming
Join if you liked it. Membership does not commit you to anything; it just makes things easier.

Running in winter: a few things that help
The three-layer rule, how to dry wet shoes, and being seen in the dark.

FAQ
Frequently asked
I am slow. Will I get left behind?
No. Every meet-up has at least two pace groups and the groups wait for each other. Leaving nobody behind is the one rule we do not bend.
Can I come without joining?
Yes. The meet-ups are open and free. Membership is something that makes life easier once you start coming regularly, not a requirement.
What should I bring?
Shoes you are comfortable in, and water. One extra layer if it is cold. No special kit — you do not need to buy anything in your first months.
Do you meet in the rain?
Usually yes. We call it off for a storm or ice, and we say so a few hours before the meet-up.
Is there an age limit?
Under eighteens are welcome with an adult. There is no upper limit; one of our most regular members is sixty-five.
Start
